Swim Training Squads

Swimmers who have achieved a level of swimming such that they no longer require the intensive instruction provided in our SwimSteps Learn to Swim Program will progress to Hampton’s SwimSquad Program. There are 3 levels of SwimSquad:

Junior Squad

Junior Squad is Hampton Swim School’s first competitive training group, and focus is on continued stroke refinement and drills, endurance in all the 4 competitive strokes and the practise of racing techniques such as starts, turns and finishes. There is also an introduction to the pace clock and medley swimming.

To advance into Intermediate Squad, swimmers must be able to successfully:

  • Swim 50m of freestyle with the correct progression of push off, streamline, kick, arms and bilateral breathing
  • Swim 50m of backstroke with the correct progression of push off, streamline, kick, arms and rotation
  • Swim 25m of breaststroke and butterfly with correct progression of push off, streamlining, kick, arms and breathing coordination
  • Ability to perform the required racing dive, rudimentary tumble turn and stroke drills

Each session runs for 40-45 minutes and swimmers are required to bring their own flippers and drink bottle along.

Intermediate Squad

Once graduated out of Junior Squad, Intermediate Squad refines all competitive strokes, extends conditioning and develops training techniques. Each sessions runs for 1 hour and swimmers are required to bring their own equipment bag, including flippers, hand paddles, cap, goggles and water bottle.

High Performance Squad

The High Performance Squad is a group of elite swimmers who are looking towards the more competitive aspect of swimming as a sport. Membership into the High Performance Squad is via invitation only by the Head Coach.

The aim of our High Performance squad is to develop advanced training and racing skills in all 4 competitive strokes in order for swimmers to reach their full potential. Swimmers are expected to have a high level of commitment and in doing so, are expected to attend a minimum of 3 sessions per week, year round, including attendance at swim club and carnivals. Swimmers are required to bring their own equipment bag, including flippers, hand paddles, cap, goggles and water bottle. Sessions run for 1 hour.
